Monitoring the use and development of the Anglican Church’s properties for the benefit of the Mission and Ministry of the Church and makes recommendations to the Bishop and/or Synod.

About

Purpose

  1. To monitor the use and development of the Anglican Church’s properties for the benefit of the Mission and Ministry of the Church. (For the avoidance of doubt, any reference to Anglican church properties includes the Glebe Lands vested in Synod under the Regulations of Synod relating to Church livings and Glebe Land consolidation)
  2. To make recommendations to the Bishop and/or Synod on all matters relating to the Church’s buildings and properties.

Membership

  • Ex Officio (3)
  • The Chair (appointed by the Bishop), The Archdeacon, The Registrar
  • Elected (10)
  • One representative from every parish (Clergy or Lay) including the Cathedral. Consultants/Advisors invited as required

Tasks

  • To provide a forum for discussions of all issues relating to the use, maintenance and development of Church properties.
  • To advise and review housing and buildings policy and needs within the Diocese.
  • To evaluate all plans and proposed developments of Anglican Church property.
  • To make recommendations to the Synod on the approval of such plans.
  • To assist the Archdeacon in his Diocesan responsibilities, e.g. with the Diocesan Faculty process and visitations.
  • To monitor each parish’s timetable in fulfilling their Quinquennial Inspection requirements.
  • To monitor the care of the churchyards of the Diocese.
  • To liaise and coordinate with the Bermuda Church Society in the provision and oversight of Clergy retirement housing and housing for the Bishop.
  • To compile and keep the full note and terrier of Church properties as required by Canon.
  • To work with the Land Registration office of the Bermuda Government with regards to the registration of Anglican Church Properties.
  • To make an annual report to the Diocesan Synod on its work.
  • To address all other business as referred to it by the Bishop and/or the Synod.
  • To meet at least three time a year or as required.
