The Problem of Evil (Job 40.7 – 41.11)
God is inviting us to ditch our mechanical view of the universe as a rational set of simple math questions with simple answers like “I do good and good things happen to me, you do bad and karma gets you” or “If nice things happen to me, I believe in a good God. If bad things happen then there’s no God or God is bad and unkind” – these simplistic images, God is saying, simply will not do. Instead, we are invited into a universe made up of a vast series of complex relationships involving not only us and God, but other powers, other people, other creatures….
